If you are a Veteran, or love a Veteran, and need help PLEASE call NOW!
When my husband and I first met and began dating one of the first things I learned about him was that he was a US Air Force Veteran. I never really knew any military people and seeing this pride and the parts of his character that are influenced by his experiences - It was endearing to know someone with such pride in his country, a passion for community and service, and the deep commitment to his fellow Veterans. It is one of the MANY reasons I love him.
As I got to know his friends and enter this other world I never knew existed, I could have never imagined and have been AMAZED with the love, warmth and care of the Veteran community, and can not express in words how becoming part of it, being welcomed and accepted into is has deeply touched my heart; and the gratitude I feel for all the men and women of the US Armed Forces because of it. It is a privilege I think people who have not experienced it may not understand. Our commitment to each other includes our shared commitment to our Veterans and active service members (which includes a US Army Soldier I have the honor of being Stepmother to).
As an Immigrant to the United States, I worried at times about "fitting in", and how I would be welcomed. I can say that it is because of the warmth and love of my military family that I could never have imagined feeling so "at home" so far from my homeland. So thank you for all you have done, thank you for service past and present, and thank you for embracing me as "one of your own" and know as I have learned from my husband, "I've got your six", in any way I can.
